Freda & I are very much looking forward to hosting Oom Jan & tante Nelly from August 29th until September 21st. That visit will be followed by our trip to the west coast (4,400 km from here) to participate in the wedding of our eldest son, Ron, who at age 44 will be married on September 29th to a lovely lady, Monica. We never thought we’d see the day! It will be a big celebration and we thank the Lord for having brought them together.
With all this going on, plus our planned trip to South Carolina during the month of November, we regretfully do not see our way clear of travelling to The Netherlands for the Smouterdag. But, with so many Canadians in attendance, including our new matriarch (since our Mother’s death) Johanna and her husband Adrian, we’re sure you’ll hardly miss us.
And now…………let’s get some more pictures on the website, eh.

Sounds good. However…..we so do not see nasi as the real dutch food…Who have you been talking to? Actually, this family eats bami (and true we love it)….(our father wouldn’t touch either nasi or bami)……and guess what….we also eat real dutch meals…spek met bonen, borenkool met voorst, rodekool met voorst…krote met spec laapjes..capicines?? (sp)Erwten soup, etc. and the list goes on. We are probably more dutch in our day to day foods and lifestyle (except for biking of course) than the dutch themselves. That being said (and all in good fun), we Bill and I have this date marked on our calendar. Todate, three of us have booked our flights –Jane/Gerb (Smouter-Dykema), Elma/Bill (Smouter-Dykema), Arie/Jacquie Smouter. We are arriving D.V. on Sept. 19, and departing for home again on Oct. 13. At this point we are surfing the web to find a home to rent for two weeks — If anyone has information for us…we have contacted Landal.nl., and well as Roompot Parken…. The plan being to stay in Germany for 1 week, and then taking 14 or 15 days in Holland. As far as we know, the entire family has plans to fly out. If things go according to plan, we all will try to make it. This being eight of us and our spouses, (children of Arie/Catrien) and Bob will probably be coming alone, since he and his wife will just be coming home from a 12 day cruise??. At this point in time MiekeSmouter-VanderDeen, hasn’t been doing too well, medically. Should things improve, they do hope to attend. Unfortunately, I personally don’t read dutch…If I really try I do get the jest of it….but it’s difficult…so I will depend on my older siblings to fill us (the younger ones) in on the comments written in dutch. Should be great fun…We look forward to this reunion, I believe it’s the first with our relatives in the Netherlands. For now, we wish you all the best in your endeavours, and look forward to further updates. On behalf of some siblings, I guess, in anticipation – Elma Smouter-Dykema.

We hebben inmiddels auditie gedaan met henny huisman in de jury. Deze week hopen we te horen of we wel of niet door zijn.oeioei oei het begint nu toch spannend te worden.

We hebben er zin in indie smouterdag! En zullen er zijn!
Ik zag dat er ook wat opdeze site staat over de eo.. misschien een leukigheidje, op 14 april ga ik met mijn koor coram deo mee doen aan de auditie voor korenslag, dus allemaal duimen em hopen dat we er doorheen komen. Vanaf 24 mei a.s is korenslag te zien naar het 8 uur journaal. Als we door zijn zal ik het jullie zeker melden.
